Creating a Playful Nursery

As a newborn photographer, I LOVE getting the opportunity to see so many different nursery styles. It's so beautiful the way that parents choose to put personal touches in their baby's room. Every nursery I've seen has its own personality and uniqueness. My sweet friend...

Your In-Home Newborn Photographer Wants You To Know

There are many things your newborn photographer would like you to know. The first is that you don't have to have a beautiful home to have beautiful in-home newborn portraits. Not everyone's home is straight out of an edition of Better Homes and Garden magazine,...

Follow your heart.

From life happenings to babies to coffee and beyond, it’s just a tiny peek into the daily life of a Bay Area newborn photographer.

Instagram post 17888101100013121 Ruffle butt 🥳. A friend texted me yesterday, “Shopping for little girl summer clothes is the best”. I happen to agree. Recently I started restocking all of my studio outfits for newborns. My goal is to have a lovely mix of more modern outfits and some traditional studio items. The hardest part? Finding tinyyy tiny outfits that fit few day old babies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Two of the best brands I’ve found with clothes that run smaller and fit new-newborns: @kytebaby and @jamiekay
Instagram post 17888442718953616 I LOVE when I have clients that return for updated pictures as their little ones grow. Watching your babies grow is such a dream 🥰. This is sweet baby Archer one year ago. This past weekend I got to see him and his family to photograph them for his first birthday. It’s so incredible how much changes in that first year. Thank you to this sweet family for trusting me to capture these moments for you.
Instagram post 17898823966782481 Q: When is the best time to book a maternity photoshoot? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: The sweet spot it between 34-36 weeks pregnant. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why: At this point your belly is nice and full. It’s also generally far enough away from your due date so we aren’t down to the deadline and you will hopefully receive your pictures back before your baby arrives. Yes, you may still feel exhausted and those general pregnancy woes but typically I’ve found this to be good timing. This can totally fluctuate some depending on how your pregnancy is going, how early/ late you delivered precious babies, and how you’re feeling.
Instagram post 17843639219542779 Reminder: no one does a happy dance when you buy an item on amazon. Shopping small means you’re making a direct impact on someone’s livelihood. Working in the service industry has been incredibly challenging this past year, and so many small businesses need your support. Here are a few ways you can support small businesses for FREE:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) Follow and like their content on social media. Social media is a HUGE marketing platform for many of us, and leaving some love on our posts helps us reach more people through this tricky algorithm. If you’re feeling really loving- leave a comment! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2) Spread the word about your favorite businesses. Press that share button! Talk about us with your friends! For me, sharing about my business in mommy groups is a big deal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3) Leave us a review online. If you’ve had the pleasure of working with us or admire our work, leave us a review. Yelp, Facebook, google. Send us a personal note with a quotable customer review for our websites.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4) If you can’t afford or aren’t ready to invest or purchase from a small business right now reach out about services for a later date. Feel free to ask about gift card options! Even just letting us know you admire our can work lifts our spirits and leaves us smiling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Small businesses are real people with reallyyy big hearts ♥️.
Instagram post 17858157572447785 Burnout: "A syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed." (as defined by the WHO in their International Classification of Diseases). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Christina Maslach of the University of California, Berkeley, Susan E. Jackson of Rutgers, and Michael Leiter of Deakin University, burnout has six main causes:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Unsustainable workload⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Perceived lack of control⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. Insufficient rewards for effort⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Lack of a supportive community⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Lack of fairness⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
6. Mismatched values and skills ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
(Jennifer Moss, Beyond Burned Out on the Harvard Business Review).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let's sit with this for a moment here. We often encourage people who are burned out to take some time for self-care, and while self-care may be critical, leaning into the problem is also critical. Compounded without occupational burnout many of us feel some of these six painpoints through parenthood. Although the idea of burnout has been around for a while, the pandemic has brought on a whole new meaning and intensity. Take some time this week to check in with these items and see where you have room for improvement.
Instagram post 17934342082474395 Monday’s (and Wednesday’s) are mommy and daughter days in our house. This means I’m mostly offline and spending time with my little muffin. Today has been so gorgeous out that we’ve enjoyed a little walk, some time taking care of the yard, and even made some popsicles. ☀️
Instagram post 17956297414399402 Family moments brought to you by *self-timer*. Lately, we've been aching for some fun and pushing ourselves to enjoy the weekends out of the house. We're greatly missing the ability to travel and see family. This picture was taken over the summer when we drove a few hours east to the Sierra Buttes. What are some mini-adventures or local stay-cations your family has taken during COVID? Give others some inspiration!
