Instagram post 18141823516165765 Pop quiz: Which one is the trouble maker?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A: Doggy of course⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
B: Toddlers = trouble⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
C: They actually work together and rule the house⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
D: Neither, it’s the unpictured cat at home 😽
Instagram post 17891762011984628 Weekend Warriors what’s waiting for you this weekend? I’m predicting some sunshine, house projects, a teething toddler and laundry 🧺.
Instagram post 17886237953077595 Have you ever wondered why it takes so long to receive your pictures after they were taken from your photographer? From a clients side, pictures are taken and then received. From a photographers side, there is an entire labor of love that goes into every single image after the shutter clicks. For me, clients can expect their final photos in about three weeks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👩‍💻📹🔍Here’s a little insight into my process:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 1️⃣: Import RAW* images, title and organize. (*RAW is the format that your photos are taken in by professional photographers. RAW means you are recording all the data from your camera sensor and are mostly non-readable files without processing). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 2️⃣: Culling* (*fancy term for “narrowing down”. I would say this is the process that makes most clients nervous with the fear of missing out on a good photo. This process is intensive and with your hopes and dreams at the front of every choice. For me, you will always have the option to review additional images that were not included in your final gallery to purchase). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 3️⃣: Make RAW adjustments by editing exposure, tweaking colors, highlights/shadows, tones/ white balance, and small sharpening.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 4️⃣: Export into JPG format for fine adjustments.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 5️⃣: Editing. Which includes: cropping appropriately, cloning backdrops, removing distractions, retouching baby skin (acne, flaky skin, eyes cracked open, removing fuzz, accenting eyelashes, reducing redness or jaundice), sharpening, and putting together and composites* (*composites are multiple images blended together to make one photo).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 6️⃣: Make my B&W versions. A nice little bonus is I include both versions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Step 7️⃣: Delivery and wait in anticipation hoping your client LOVES your labor of love.
Instagram post 17857447901496385 This is the forever kind of love. The unbreakable, boundless love that never ends. Parenthood breaks down who you are and completely reshapes how you viewed the world. It’s moments like these that make me reflect on how much I love my job. I get to witness this beautiful bond between a parents and baby at the very beginning. 💕
Instagram post 17978093443368286 Snuggly little honey 🍯 I’m starting to obsess over rich jewel tones. If you’ve been around here for awhile then you know this is new. In the past I’ve mostly photographed newborns with lots of clean crisp whites and pale muted tones. Pulling in rich warm tones with deep shadows felt risky at first but the longer I’ve been at my craft the more I’ve seen my style evolve. I’ve pushed myself to take risks in creating beautiful images. To my creative risk takers, this is my encouragement for you to take a little dive into something new.
Instagram post 17896802083886838 My resume should read: “Will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to get laughs out of kiddos”. Flip them upside down, bring along a mountain of toys, bust out in song and dance, or tell a bad joke. If I leave our photoshoot with sticks and leaves poking out of my hair and mascara down my face, you know I’ve done my job right 😅.
Instagram post 17894047177989590 The first few days (maybe weeks? months? Years?) as a new mother are incredibly raw and surreal. I remember sobbing over everything and nothing at the same time. An unwelcomed wave of worry lingered over me on most days. Two weeks after birth I was pushing my body to be *normal*. But my body wasn’t it’s old normal. It was completely new. Learning your new body, baby, and world as a parent takes time. Patience mama. Good things are coming and in time you will learn that you are stronger than you ever believed.
